Minimising risks; sustainably maximising opportunities

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a company's responsibility towards society.
If we argue that society, in general, wishes to develop sustainably then CSR is a company's contribution towards sustainable development; and in particular towards its stakeholders.
And as one of a company's main contributions to society is the financial support it generates through taxes and services and the human capital it develops through professional employment and development, then it follows that a core component of a company's CSR is to ensure that its business is sustainable and its corporate governance and policy's robustly support its sustainability.
Social responsibility, is not however the sole domain of company's; but rather it belongs to all organisations.
The committee draft of the upcoming ISO standard on social responsibility (ISO26000) drops the C of CSR and defines Social responsibility as:
"The responsibility of an organization for the impacts of its decisions and activities on society and the environment, through transparent and ethical behaviour that:
• contributes to sustainable development, including health and the welfare of society;
• takes into account the expectations of stakeholders;
• is in compliance with applicable law and consistent with international norms of behaviour, and;
• is integrated throughout the organization and practiced in its relationships. These relationships refer to an organization’s activities within its sphere of influence."
AstonEco Management incorporates full consideration of social responsibility in all our work.
